Been a while

So it's been a while since we've posted from this particular social medium.

What have we been up to?

- Recording our debut EP in a hollowed out concrete water tank with the man who recorded Angus & Julia Stone, Lady of the Sunshine, The Fumes and more.

- Playing with a few awesome bands like Ball Park Music and Brothers.

- Writing a shitload, but not finalising any of the tracks to the point of gigging-standard.

You can expect to hear a chosen single from the EP in late November. You can expect to hear the whole EP in Febuary or March 2011.

Gold Coasters: Check us out this thursday night @ The Basement with the banjo-wielding, hoe-down enducing Bang Bang Boss Kelly. If not, catch us this friday night @ Coolangatta Hotel w/ The Novocaines, Foreign Objects from Perth.

Brisbane folk: Check us out this saturday night in the city @ The Beetle Bar with indie lords Friends Of Ben and Bang Bang Boss Kelly.

This blog would be more entertaining if I were as funny as Family Guy. Ah well a bird bird bird, bird bird's the word x

Black Friday

Okay so last friday night, some bad shit went down at the Great Northern in Byron Bay.

Just after we'd played possibly the best show of our lives, stowed our gear away in a supposedly "safe" room, and danced uncontrollably to the spectacular Glass Towers, all hell broke loose.

During Glass Tower's set, my most prized guitar was stolen, along with Zach's bass.

We ran around Byron, reported it to the police, watched the footage of the two men who had stolen them, but it was no use.

Epiphone Sheraton II Left Handed Sunburst (black/brown/orange) with no pick guard, one gold pick up and one white/cream.

Cort 4 string bass, sandy/natural finish

This was an unspeakable injustice. I'm shattered..

Obviously moving on is the only option, but I sincerely wish ill upon those who could steal something so personal and sentimental.

Brisbane/Sunshine Coast mini tour footage

Hey yo, this is a little compilation Andy made from one of our recent little brisbane/sunshine coast mini tours. There should be another one up from an EARLIER mini tour eventually (but that footage is a bit intense lol) so we thought we'd break the ice with this. Enjoy :)

Brisbane/Sunshine Coast trip

Greetings yall.

So last week we played shows at the Troubadour (Brisbane) and Kings Beach Tavern (Sunshine Coast) on the thursday and friday.

THURSDAY

With an hour and a bit to get down to Brisbane for load in, I realise my chorus pedal has broken an internal wire once again.. So it's off to Billy Hyde dressed like a indie-freak at 5 in the afternoon, much to the dismay of many bogans and casually dressed onlookers.

Pedal succesfully working, we arrive at the Troubadour without a minute to spare. Andy and Hylton sit comfortably inside the venue on the lounge chairs, as they have nothing to load in due to a lucky backlining situation. None of that for us though. Elliot and I proceed to lug his recently rented fender twin up 3 or 4 flights of stairs (I lost perception due to the altitude).
After our set, I broke more road rules than I thought possible in an attempt to get my car back into the venue load out, and we took all of our gear to a friend's apartment nearby.

After watching the energetic Bang Bang Boss Kelly and the soulful David Flower perform, it was back to the apartment for beers and bed (that is to say, couch or floor).

FRIDAY

Early start due to Dan cleaning up and puttering quietly around us at about 7 am or so. Hylton insisted on having a shower, which gave us a little more time to sit around before we had to get kicked out. Not enough time though, as I was still half asleep when I got behind the wheel. We ended up at an expensive cafe for breakfast whose staff were absolutely hopeless, and slipped Andy an $2.20 extra fee for bacon on his eggs benedict, after they'd already said there was no extra charge.

We then found ourselves tripping over the many confusing twists and turns of Inception. Solid movie.

Several hours later, after Andy and Hylton FINALLY caught up with us in Caloundra after missing the turn off, the four of us were drinking the remainder of our beers out of a bucket of ice in Andy's car. We picked a few beautiful spots around Caloundra to park, drink, sing and gaze aimlessly into the ocean, whilst listening to some of our favourites: Brothers, Colourfide, Hungary Kids of Hungary and so on..

Another trip to the bottle-o and a free round on the bar owner later, we found ourselves on stage, drunk and having a blast. Can't quite recall how we sounded, but my auntie insists it was fantastic!

That's about it I guess. There was some sweet video footage, but just about every word was a horrible profanity, so like, go figure.

Cheers,

Jackson

Debut post

Hey guys and welcome to the new Oceanics blog.

We'll be writing about things we do, songs we sing, and stuff like that.

If funny things happen along the way, my lord will you hear about them. Even if they're not that funny. Because they'll be funny to us. WHO ARE YOU TO QUESTION THAT?? Jokes.

Last week we:

Jammed all week. Like every day. Why? Can't remember.
Drove down to the valley (brisbane) thursday night to play our show at the troubadour. Some stuff happened. Check out the next blog to see what went down.... Thanks for reading!
